Labradorite is named after the Labrador peninsula in Canada. The Aboriginal people of the North had a legend that the Northern Lights were entombed within Labradorite until a warrior released them with his spear. There are many other legends associated with the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) depending on which culture and are of the world it is associated with. Labradorite is from the Feldspar family and is found in many parts of the World and varies in colour from shades of blue to shades of green, yellow, orange, purple and grey. The colour's appearance or "flash" changes with the light which is due to the distinctive Feldspar schiller.
